Campaign of the Month: September 2014
There are dozens of so-called “fringe” colonies – systems with no permanent human settlement but notable human interstellar activity. Such systems are usually the site of industrial mining ventures, military production facilities, or scientific research. A few are developing colonies that have not yet become self-sustaining.
They almost universally have jump connections to only a single core system, as they do not present significant enough economic value for a government or megacorporation to invest in constructing multiple jump gates, or else the controlling element desires to heavily control or monitor travel in and out of the system.
Because the existence and status of such systems are rapidly changing, and frequently subject to political and corporate intrigue, fringe colonies rarely appear on standardized maps.
