Campaign of the Month: September 2014
A form of punishment, originally a medical treatment intended for the severely criminally insane, now widely considered barbaric and cruel.
Method and Effects
Cybernetic implants that regulate electrical impulses and chemical reactions are inserted into the brain and attached to the spinal column.
Nerve-stapled individuals remain technically capable of self-determination and higher thought, but emotional responses and instinctual impulses are suppressed, rendering the nerve-stapled individual largely docile and compliant.
Nerve-stapling is a common punishment in the Central Collective, and is marginally accepted in both the Pegasi-Persei Protectorate and Rimward Trade Council. It is considered an atrocity in the Commonwealth and Enclave.
